WHO SHE WAS

An active senior at Surrattsville High School (SHS) in Clinton, Maryland Tekau had a 4.0 GPA. She served as Vice President of her senior class, played multiple sports, and was a Cadet Colonel in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). She was well liked by students, teachers, administrators, and staff. She was always running from one activity to the next, but she still found time to devote to her schoolwork, the community, family, friends and peers in need. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Girl Scouts of America Troop 5669 for eight years. Tekau was a dedicated and disciplined JROTC cadet from her freshmen through her senior year. She was Executive Officer of Wing MD-942, Commander of the award-winning Color Guard team, and a highly regarded instructor for the Cadet Officer Leadership Program (COLP) and the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (NCOA). Tekau received numerous awards and commendations, including the Military Order of the JROTC Purple Certificate and the Medal Award.

Tekau was active in a variety of sports, including basketball and tennis, and was co-captain of the Junior Varsity Volleyball team. She volunteered at the SHS Special Olympics every year, and was a 2011 participant in Maryland Girls State. She was a beautiful vivacious teen who loved life and lived every day to its fullest.  

Tekau was a devoted friend, cousin, niece, granddaughter, sister, and daughter, who always saw the best in people. She is remembered by most for her beautiful smile - which would light up a room, her joy, and her love of life!
